I am a graduate of Harriman High School (Class of 1963). I received a
Bachelor of Arts degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1967 and a
Master of Arts degree (summa cum laude) in 1985 from Union College in
Barbourville, KY. I completed post graduate studies in Spanish and in
education at both the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Tennessee
Technological University in Cookeville. Through the auspices of Clark
University in Worcester, MA, I participated in summer study programs at the
Universities of London (England), of Paris (France) and of Rome (Italy).
In addition to teaching at Harriman High School I am also a member
of the adjunct faculty of Roane State Community College in Harriman, TN.
I began my teaching career as an instructor of Spanish and French in August
of 1967 at Lyman Ward Military Academy in Camp Hill, AL. In May of 1974 I
resigned my position there and returned to Harriman. I began my second
teaching assignment in August of 1974 at Harriman High School as an
instructor of Spanish and French and have completed a total of 42 years of
teaching (2008).
The mission of Spanish instruction at Harriman High School is to contribute
to the education of individuals so they can read, write, understand and
communicate in the Spanish language with a cross-cultural understanding of
Hispanic society.
