VOLUNTEER DRIVERS

TIPS FOR DRIVERS ON FIELD TRIPS

We are so appreciative of our volunteer drivers! Without you, there
would be no field trips! Here are a few suggestions and requests for
safe travel, first, to and from our destinations, and, secondly,
for safety first behavior in the destination parking area and our
own school parking lot.

(1) Remind the children who are exiting your vehicle to wait for you
to exit the vehicle as well, so that you may walk with them at all
times. One helpful suggestion is to ask the students to keep one
hand on the vehicle once they are out until the chaperone/driver is
ready to walk with them.

(2) Drivers should always pull over to the side of the street or
into a parking lot if cell phone use is necessary.

(3) Remind the children before leaving the school parking lot to
use 'indoor,' quiet voices.

(4) Arrive at school around 15 minutes before departure time. Wait
outside the classroom door. The teacher will ask you to come in at
the appropriate time to hear the instructions given to the students.

(5) Remember that you are the chaperone for the children assigned to
you. Please stay with that particular group of children for the
entire field trip.

And, again, THANK YOU for volunteering!
