Everything You Wanted to Know About Mrs. Capps...And Then Some!

Although I was born in Atlanta, I spent most of my childhood in Maryville
and consider it my home. I attended Porter Elementary School (1-8) and
Heritage High School (9-12). I graduated from Austin Peay State University
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. After graduation, I taught
5 years in Union County (2nd grade and 6th grade). I received a fellowship
from the U.S. Department of Education to work on a Masters of Science degree
in Library Science at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville. I spent 3
years as the media specialist at Mary Blount Elementary and realized that I
missed being in the classroom. I have taught at Townsend Elementary (a
3rd/4th grade multi-age class)and at Porter Elementary (8th grade English,
as well as 3rd and 4th grades). I came to Heritage Middle School when it
opened in 2000 to teach 7th grade language arts. After a short return to
Porter to be with my children, I have returned to teach 7th grade language
arts in the exact same classroom. I truly missed teaching middle school
students and am very grateful for the opportunity to return here to teach.

My family consists of my very supportive husband, Greg, and my three
wonderful daughters: Mary Alison (a freshman at Heritage High School) and
Molly & Emma (5th grade twins at Porter Elementry). We have a really crazy,
but loving cat, Isabella, whom we acquired from Mrs. Williams. I love to
travel, scrapbook and read. I have taken students from HMS on some really
exciting trips in the past--Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and
Washington, D.C. Three years ago my daughter, Mary Alison, and I traveled to
Italy with some students from Heritage High School.

Mission For The Class

My mission for the students of my class is to be prepared for the challenges
that 8th grade language arts classes hold and to use the skills from class
to become productive and successful citizens in our community.
