I am excited to begin my twenty-ninth year of teaching. Nine of these
years have been as an eighth grade Science teacher at Heritage Middle School.
In my teaching career, every year has brought new challenges and new ideas
to improve my teaching. I am privileged to have taught for several school
systems, including Chesapeake, VA, and the Department of Defense Schools in
Naples, Italy, and London, England.
On the personal side, I have been married for 37 years to my
husband, Robert, who grew up in Maryville and graduated from Everett
High School. In 1998, after 28 years of active duty in the Navy, he
retired and we came home to start our new life. We have two daughters, Betsy
and Robin, who have exciting careers. Betsy is the marketing director of the
Fox television station in Toledo, OH, and Robin works in the recycling
division of a large paper company. Betsy has twins, Emma and Owen, who are
two and one-half years old. In my occasional free time, I enjoy reading and
cooking,especially, Italian food.
Science 8 is a general science course emphasizing inquiry, scientific
method, and the engineering design process. Content topics will include
metric measurement, matter, Periodic Table, chemical formulas and equations,
acids and bases, biological classification, ecology, biological diversity,
electromagnetism, gravity, and fossils. My goal is for students to be
actively involved in learning through hands on experiences, research, and
project-based learning. Students will be required to do a Science Fair
project for the Science Fair in early February.
