What tests do the students have each week?

Each week there is a spelling test, vocabulary test, and reading
test. We
will have a spelling test on Thursday of each week. If your child
makes a 100
on Thursday, they do not have to take the test again on Friday.
If they
don't make a 100 on Thursday, they will retake the test on Friday
and the
highest of the two test scores will be recorded. The reading and
vocabulary
tests will be given on Friday of each week. During four day
weeks, when we
are out on Friday, we will take our first spelling test on
Wednesday and the
second one, if needed, will be given on Thursday. Other tests
will be on
Thursday, as well.

Does my child have homework?

Your child fills out an Agenda each day that lists homework for
that day.

Why does the homework change everyday?

Depending on time, we try to get all of our work accomplished
during the
day. However, there are days that we just can't fit it in. So,
it needs to
be completed for homework.

How can I help my child study for the tests?

Practice, practice, practice! Go over the spelling words every
night.
For Vocabulary words, practice reading them every night. The
reading test
is a little more tricky. Go over the reading story every night
(read it to
them on Monday and Tuesday, take turns reading pages on Wednesday
and have
your child read the entire story by Thursday night). I know that
this
sounds like a lot, but the repetitiveness of this will help their
fluency.

How can I get in touch with you?

The best way is to write a note on your child's agenda. I check
this every
day for notes. The next best way is e-mail griggsc@k12tn.net.
And lastly,
call the school. I will not be able to speak to you during
school hours,
but I will call you later.
