How often will my child have homework?
Homework will be assigned most nights. It might only be a short
math
worksheet or to read their reading story; but I really feel this
prepares
third graders for the future.
How will students be assessed in spelling this year?
Spelling tests will look very different this year. Students will
no longer be asked to spell from memory while the teacher calls
out the list of words. Students will be given a list of words
weekly that enforces a particular phonics or grammar skill, for
example: long vowel sounds, word endings, or homophones. Students
should study the rules for spelling the words. On Fridays,
students will be assessed in several ways. They may be asked to
find mispelled words in a paragraph, write a sentence using the
word, or correctly add an ending to the words. Spelling is no
longer a separate grade, it is included in the Language Arts
average.
How will my child be graded?
My assignments are not weighted. I choose assignments in which
the
children can be successful . At the end of the six weeks, an
average of all
of the grades will be taken. I try to take at least 12 grades per
student
each six weeks.
How can I get involved?
Our Booster Club is always seeking new members and volunteers to
help with
activities. Please contact Leigh Ann Marvin or Amy Merrick. When
field trips
and field day roll around, I will be asking for volunteers to
chaperone.
What is your behavior system?
In my class we pull tickets. Each ticket is a different color and
represents
a different behavior (Yellow:talking, Orange:not following school
rule,
Red:off task, Green:no homework, Blue:assignment sheet not
signed).
Consequences vary based on the number of tickets pulled.
