Week of Nov. 16
* This week we will begin a new unit – Food. This is my kind of unit!! ☺ We will be learning about
where food comes from, what types of food we like, etc. I am going to be doing several science type of
experiments with food, so I will need your help in bringing in an item or two. If you are willing to help
purchase various items, please send me back the attached page and let me know. I will then call on you
as needed. Examples of some of the items will be crackers, apples, lemon juice…..the items won’t be
expensive and we won’t need lots, just enough for an experiment.
* Letters of the week: Kk (like at the beginning of kite) & Nn (like at the beginning of noodle)
* Word of the week: to
* Math: money up to .10c (using pennies), review AB patterns (red, blue, red, blue), putting numbers in
order (0-10, 11-20 if needed), identifying numbers 11-20.
* Ms. Ashley will be leaving us at Thanksgiving! We are all going to be so sad to see her go, however
she has been great & will soon make a wonderful classroom teacher in her very own room!
* I have also attached information about our field trip coming up in December. Please send everything
back in ASAP. If I have more than 2 parents wanting to go with us, I will put the names in a hat and
draw 2 names. If you are chosen then you can pay for your part. Go ahead and pay for your child, and
then I will let you know if you need to pay for yourself.
* Congratulations to Gracey Pannell – student of the week. Thank you Gracey for remembering to use
your good manners when you are talking with our classmates & showing them how to be so nice to
each other.
GAME TIME:
Find an old cookie sheet (one with sides works best) & fill the bottom with dry rice or a small amount of
shaving cream (have them spread the shaving cream out). Have your child practice writing words,
letters, or numbers in the tin with their fingers. The parent could also write those same things then
have the child read the word, letter, or number. Kids love this!!! It is a great way to make learning fun.
You can also use this when your child begins taking spelling tests!
