The next few weeks will be busy ones for your child at school. We will be
involved in several projects and will need your help with several of these.
We will be making Indian shirts. Each child will need to bring one, over-
sized, 100% cotton white, crew neck t-shirt.
We will be dying these in brewed tea and the children will be painting Indian
symbols on them. The girls often enjoy getting an
adult size t-shirts and wearing them as an Indian dress. (S-M)
If you need to purchase these, you might want to get together with some other
parents and share a pack since they normally come in packages of three.
Please do not send a turtle neck shirt. I would like to have these by
Friday, November 6. I will be dying these on Monday, November 9, and we
will paint our Indian symbols on them on Wednesday, November 11. I will
need 3 or 4 parents to help with this. Please let me know if you can help
that day.
We will also be making Indian drums out of coffee cans. I have enough
for this year, but collect them all year. If you have an empty coffee or
oatmeal can, please save it and send it to school.
If you or someone you know has a beaded car seat, please ask them so
save it when it begins to tear up. We use the beads from these car seats for
the children to paint with paint pens and make their Indian necklaces.
Tuesday, November 25, we will have our Thanksgiving
Feast in our classroom. The children will help prepare most
of the food on that day and we will wear our Indian shirts to school that
Tuesday.. I will be sending home a letter at a later date to tell you more
about our Thanksgiving Feast and asking your child to bring one item to
contribute to this.
Thanksgiving is a fun and busy time in Kindergarten, and it is one of my
favorite seasons. Thank you in advance for your help in making all of this
possible.
