How long have you been at Lakeview?

This will be my 21st year here at Lakeview Elementary.YEAH!!!! Many people 
know me by my maiden name-Miss Steinmetz.

Do we have homework on Friday?

No, I assign homework Monday thru Thursday. On a day when 
we have an assessment we may not have homework for that particular subject. 
There may be times when reading, English or writing are assigned for 
homework.

Do you use the Accelerated Reader progam in your class?

Yes!!! I give the children as many opportunites each day to go to the 
computers in our room and take tests. I try to go to the computer lab once a 
week, also. We now have computer as a Related Arts time so our usuage of the 
lab and what activites we domay change from last year.Later in the year I 
will implement an incentive program for AR.

Is the AR part of my child's reading grade?

No, I do not require x amount of points each grading period. I encourage the 
children to read and test as much as they want. I do expect each child to 
test and pass 1 book per week.

How can I help my child with the AR?

1. Help them learn to spell their middle name-this is their password. It 
helps to let them practice typing it on the computer keyboard, also.
2. Help them write down the title of any Ar book that they read at home.

How can I help my child improve their reading?

READ READ READ READ READ. Listen to and read with your child for 15 minutes 
each night. It will make a big difference.
