What does my child do in guidance?
We use two curriculums in our guidance classes. We start with A Peace-Able Place, which teaches kids how to handle conflicts peacefully. We then go to a program called Protecting You Protecting Me, which teaches kids the importance of keeping the brain safe at all times. All K-5 do these curriculums.Back to Top

I feel my child might have a learning disability. What can I do?
You need to work closely with the teacher first. They can try some changes in the classroom to see if that will help. Ask your self.. is it something at home? Have there been changes at home to lead your child's grades to drop? If you have exhausted many avenues with no change in their grades talk with the teacher about referring them for RTI (Response to Intervention). The teacher will administer a test called DIBELS which will determine if they need interventions. If they qualify the teacher will start a series of 40 sessions doing interventions to see if progress is made. If no progress is made will would look at testing for Resource, Mrs. Pickney's class. There could be an underlying learning disability.Back to Top
