Happy Birthday, Kaleb! (Feb. 7th)

Progress reports go home today!

Valentine's Party is Friday!

Science students will need to bring a flashlight on Wednesday and Thursday of 
this week for an activity we will be doing in class.  They will be able to 
bring them home when we are finished.

SCIENCE:  Today we reviewed the forms of energy.  Students did WB p. 99, as 
well as 5 questions added on to the bottom of their workbook page and turned 
it in.  We then watched the DVD, "All About Energy."  THERE WILL BE A QUIZ 
TOMORROW ABOUT ENERGY!!

Homework:  Study your energy notes!

SPELLING:  WB p. 77 due tomorrow

Homework:  Finish WB. 77 if not finished in class; agenda words due tomorrow.




**REMINDER:  FIELD TRIP DEPOSIT MONEY IS PAST DUE!!! $25 is due for each 
student and $25 is due for each parent who is going on the trip. PLEASE DO 
NOT SEND THE ENTIRE $45 AMOUNT AT THIS TIME.  ONLY PAY THE DEPOSIT.  The 
final deposit amount is likely to change to a lower price because we had so 
many parents sign up to go.  Thank you!!!!

SCIENCE:  Today we finished learning about the 9 forms of energy.  We looked 
at different household objects and determined which types of energy are used 
in each one.  Students completed a worksheet about energy and turned it in.

SPELLING:  Test

SCIENCE:  Today we began learning about 9 different forms of energy.  
Students read p. 274-275 and received notes about forms of energy.  We 
discussed light, sound, heat, mechanical, electrical, and chemical energy.  
If you were absent, please make sure to read those pages and read your notes 
carefully when you return!

Homework:  None

SPELLING:  Test from last week is rescheduled for tomorrow!  If you had to do 
4X each last week, I will be collecting them tomorrow.  Make sure you study 
your words!!

**REMINDER:  FIELD TRIP DEPOSIT MONEY IS DUE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND!!!!!  $25 
is due for each student and $25 is due for each parent who is going on the 
trip. PLEASE DO NOT SEND THE ENTIRE $45 AMOUNT AT THIS TIME.  ONLY PAY THE 
DEPOSIT.  The final deposit amount is likely to change to a lower price 
because we had so many parents sign up to go.  Thank you!!!!

SCIENCE:  Today students completed WB p. 93 and turned it in.  They read p. 
274-278 about different forms of energy, then watched the DVD, "All About 
Solids, Liquids, and Gases."

SPELLING: WB p. 76 (completed and turned in today)

Homework:  Study for your spelling test, which we will have WHENEVER we 
return!  Don't forget that 4X each is also due whenever we return for the 
students who had to do that assignment.

SCIENCE:  Today we reviewed physical and chemical changes using a Powerpoint 
lesson.  Students took a pop quiz over physical/chemical changes.  We read 
and discussed p. 264-267 about states of matter.  Students did "living 
matter" and demonstrated how atoms are packed together in each state of 
matter.

Homework:  None

SPELLING:  WB p. 75 due tomorrow

Homework:  Students with less than an "A" average are to write their words 4X 
each; due Friday.

SCIENCE: Today we learned about mixtures. Students received notes for their 
notebooks.  "Chef" Maness demonstrated mixtures using fruit salad.  This 
information is on p. 268.

SCIENCE:  Today we went over the quizzes from Friday.  We finished watching 
the DVD, "All About the Properties of Matter," then students received notes 
about physical and chemical changes.  We learned the difference between 
physical and chemical changes, which we will finish tomorrow.

SCIENCE:  Today we practiced some metric conversions and figured the density 
of an object using division.  We did some TCAP practice questions over 
matter, and students took a pop quiz over matter.  Students read p. 262-268 
in their books, then began a DVD, "All About the Properties of Matter" which 
we will finish on Monday.

SCIENCE:  Today we finished learning about measuring matter, pages 250-256.  
We reviewed the difference between measuring length, volume, temperature, 
mass, density, and weight.  We looked at the different prefixes for metric 
units of measurement, and did some simple metric conversions.  Students 
completed WB p. 89 and turned it in.  Some students in 5th period had to 
finish for homework.

Homework:  None

SPELLING:  WB p. 71 (turned in today)

Homework:  Study for your test!  Students with less than an "A" average in 
spelling need to write their words 3X each, due tomorrow.

length, volume, temperature, mass, density, and weight on p. 250-256.  We 
used a pan balance to measure the mass of different objects.

**Today Davis Nolan, News 2 meteorologist, came to speak to our 4th graders 
about what he does as a meteorologist.  The students all really enjoyed it.  
Ask your child about it!

**ATTENTION HOMEROOM:  If you have not brought back your signed report card, 
please do so as soon as possible.

SCIENCE:  Today we started Chapter 6 Lesson 1 about matter.  We learned the 
definition of matter, which is anything that has mass and takes up space.  We 
began reading and discussing Lesson 1.

SCIENCE:  Students received their graded chapter 5 tests back today.  They 
will go home in Friday folders.  We went over the test, hung up our water 
cycle posters in the hallway, and did the practice TCAP questions on p. 234-
235 of the textbook.

**CHAPTER 5 UNIT TEST IS NEXT TUESDAY, JANUARY 12TH!!!

SCIENCE:  Today student worked in groups on their study guides for the 
chapter 5 test.  It is available on my website AND the answers are 
included!!!!  This should help you study if we have snow days and miss class.

Homework:  Finish your study guide and begin studying for the test

SPELLING:  There is not a spelling unit this week.  Student were given a 
review practice sheet to work on in class.  There is NOT a spelling test this 
week.
