Tennessee Scholars

Requirements for Class of 2009-2012

•	4 English courses 
•	4 Mathematics courses (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and one higher 
           level math course) 
•	3 Science courses (Biology I and Chemistry plus 1 additional lab science, 
           Physics recommended and preferred) 
•	3 Social Studies(History, Government and Economics)
•	1 Fine Arts 
•	2 Foreign Language courses in the same language 
•	2 Career Technical Education courses (One must be in a computer 
          applications area)
•	Dual credit and online courses are acceptable.     
 
Additional Requirements:
•	20 hours of Community Service 
•	Overall "C" average 
•	95% attendance each year 
•	No out-of-school suspensions 
•	Tennessee Scholars must pass all exit exams 

Requirements for the Class of 2013 and Beyond

•	4 credits  Math( Algebra 1 and 11, Geometry, and a higher math) Bridge 
          math will not count toward TN Scholars requirements
•	4 credits English
•	Biology and Chemistry and one other lab Science (Physics strongly 
           preferred)
•	2 career technical Credits or 2 additional AP Courses 
•	3 credits in Social Studies
•	.5 credit in Personal finance 
•	2 Foreign Language Credits in the Same language
•	1 Fine Arts Credit
•	1.5 Physical Education credits as outlined by the TDP 
•	Dual credit, dual enrollment, and online courses are acceptable. 
     
Additional Requirements:
•	80 hours of Community Service
•	Overall "C" average (No F’s or D’s for any final grade)
•	95% attendance or miss no more than 36 days in four years 
•	No out-of-school suspensions
•	Tennessee Scholars are required to pass all end-of-course
