**Seniors: Guidance has the FAFSA On The Web Worksheet. This worksheet 
can help you be better prepared when you go online to fill out your FAFSA 
forms.  


 

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:

**Most scholarships come directly from the college or university. If you 
have 
a particular college in mind, you are encouraged to contact the university's 
Office of Financial Aid for a complete list of scholarships offered as well 
as their application requirements and deadlines. The deadline for the 
submission of college/financial aid application usually comes very early in 
the senior year.

**All money for college will be processed through the FAFSA (Free 
Application 
for Federal Student Aid).  This includes loans, scholarships, grants, 
lottery 
funds and other forms of financial aid. Students and parents are encouraged 
to fill out the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov as soon as possible. When 
applying online, it is necessary for both the student and parent to apply 
for 
an electronic signature, or PIN at the following website, www.pin.ed.gov.
The first day to submit the FAFSA applications for consideration of the 
2008-2009 school year will be Jan 1, 2008.  Please submit yours as close to 
Jan. 1st as possible as some funds are given based on a first come, first 
serve basis.

Students/parents should never have to pay to find college/scholarship 
information online as most of this information is available for free on 
websites such as those listed above.  

**The American Legion makes a publication entitled Need A Lift?  This 
publication is a step-by-step guide to federal, state and private student 
financial aid programs.  It includes information on scholarships, grants and 
loans and also has specific information on 1,400 colleges and universities 
around the nation.  Need A Lift is available at www.needalift.org or can be 
purchased for $3.95 by contacting the American Legion at 1-888-453-4466.  

**Austin Peay State University Academic Scholarships will now be awarded at 
the time of acceptance, without an additional Scholarship Application or 
Counselor Recommendation Form.  Scholarships will be given on a first come, 
first serve, declining-balance basis.  Interested students should apply and 
send in an official transcript and test scores early! Other scholarship 
consideration at Austin Peay will continue to require a scholarship 
application, available at www.apsu.edu/scholarships.
   
**CollegeToolKit.com Scholarship
Any student 14 or older who is interested in attending college can apply for 
a $10,000 scholarship online at www.collegetoolkit.com by submitting an 
essay 
on "Why you want to go to college". Applications for the scholarship are 
online now.  See your counselor for more information. While you are on their 
website, check out their college and scholarship searches, career 
assessments, interactive calculators and other related articles.

**The following is an important message for male students who will turn 18 
or are already 18 years old. You must register with the Selective Service 
within 30 days of your 18th birthday.  You may go to www.sss.gov or you may 
pick up a registration card at the post office. This is a state and federal 
law.  You will not be able to receive scholarships, grants or loans without 
being registered. 

**SunTrust Offer To College Scholarship Sweepstakes
$1,000 scholarship for high school seniors.  Complete details at 
www.offtocollege.info or suntrusteducation.com.  Free to enter, and 
eligibility not based on GPA or financial need.  One winner every 2 weeks 
from Oct. 31, 2007 to May 15, 2008.   

**www.ecampustours.com 
$1,000 Scholarship Sweepstakes. Register online at eCampusTours.com, a free 
site. This site offers virtual college tours, financial aid, college/career 
planning, online registration for campus visits and a scholarship search.   

**If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor 
student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay 
the 
tuition. The university recently announced that from now on undergraduate 
students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free...no tuition 
and 
no student loans! To find out more about Harvard offering free tuition for 
families making less than $60,000 a year visit Harvard's financial aid 
website at: http://www.fao.fas.harvard.edu/ or call the school's financial 
aid office at (617)495-1581.

**U.S. Bank is offering 30 $1,000 scholarships to seniors who plan on 
attending a 2 or 4 year institution in the fall.  Recipients will be 
selected 
through a random drawing process, no applications, minimum GPA etc… 
required. 
All it takes is to register at www.usbank.com/studentbanking.  

**If you are a senior and a dependent child of a law enforcement officer, 
fireman, or emergency medical technician who has been killed or permanently 
disabled in the line of duty while employed in TN, you may be eligible for 
the dependent children’s scholarship program.  Applicants must attend a 
postsecondary institution in TN.  Applications are available at 
www.collegepaystn.com.

**CIC Foundation Scholarship
Scholarships are available through the CIC Foundation for students 
interested 
in pursuing a career within the credit or financial services industry.  
Applications are available in guidance and must be submitted by March 28 to 
be eligible for consideration.  

-A $1,000 scholarship is available to any female senior planning on 
attending 
Cumberland University in the fall.  Applicants will be judged on basis of 
need and academic performance.

-The Mildred Hearne Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship available 
to 
any senior for the college of their choice.  Applicants will be judged on 
basis of need and academic performance.

-The Leadership scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship to the college of your 
choice to any senior who can show exemplary qualities of leadership.
  
**Student-View Scholarship Program
www.student-view.com is offering 9 scholarships ranging from $500-$3,000.  
Simply log on and complete a 15-20 minute survey about colleges in your 
area.  The deadline to complete the survey is April 22, 20008.  Scholarships 
will be awarded via a random drawing.  Flyers are available in guidance.  
(Student Insights is a market research firm helping colleges and 
universities 
communicate more effectively with high school seniors.  For more information

**Scarlett Family Foundation Scholarship
Any seniors interested in pursuing a career in business can apply for the 
Scarlett Family Foundation Scholarship.  The Foundation is offering a number 
of awards ranging in amount, but the minimum award amount is $2,500.  Many 
fields and industries are included.  See your counselor for more 
information.  Entries must be postmarked by April 30, 2008. Apply online at 
www.scholarshipadministrators.net and enter the access key SFFS.  After 
completing the online application, you must mail the application cover page, 
transcript and ACT scores, drivers license or proof of residency and a copy 
of your family’s most recent 1040.

**The Appointed Man Scholarship
Any male seniors planning on attending TN Tech University can apply for the 
Appointed Man Scholarships.  These are two $500 scholarships sponsored by 
Tau 
Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.  Applications are available in guidance.  
  
**If you are a senior and plan to attend Oglethrop University in Atlanta, 
Georgia. Guidance has information about scholarships. See your counselor for 
information.
 
**Seniors if you are interested in theatre, television and film guidance has 
information from Chattanooga State about how to apply. See your counselor 
for information.   

**Guidance has information about the East Tennessee State University Honors 
College. If interested see your counselor.
 
**If you are interested in applying for an Air Force ROTC scholarship please 
see your counselor for information.
 
**Nuclear Engineering Scholarship
Any seniors interested in the nuclear engineering program at UT Knoxville 
can 
pick up a scholarship application today in guidance.  

**Cappex.com Scholarship 
Cappex.com is a website designed to help students find the right college 
fit.  They are currently offering $25,000 worth of scholarships in various 
degree areas.  Cappex.com is not endorsed in any way by Lebanon High School, 
but more information is available in guidance.  Log on to 
www.cappex.com/scholarships and apply today.  

**Savannah College Of Art and Design Scholarships
Guidance has information on scholarships available at the Savannah College 
of 
Art and Design. For more information visit www.scad.edu/scholarships.

**Any senior males planning on attending Austin Peay can now apply for the 
Balanced Man Scholarship worth $500.  Please see your counselor for an 
application.  Deadline to apply is June 16th.

**Any senior males planning on attending UT Knoxville can apply for the John 
Reilly Knox scholarship worth $250.  See your counselor for an application.  
Deadline to apply is July 23rd.



SENIORS:

**The Senior Catalog is now online.  You may access it by going to 
wcschools.com, click on schools, then Lebanon High and then guidance.  A 
paper copy is available in guidance for those who do not have the internet 
at 
home.  See your counselor for a copy.

**Here are some of the things that colleges are looking for in applicants:
Performance in high school (grades, quality of courses, rank in class, 
trends 
in grades, performance in courses related to academic area of interest)
Test scores (SAT or ACT)
Recommendations
Personal statement
Extracurricular involvement
Interested area of study  
Colleges also value evidence of a student’s resiliency, leadership abilities 
and creativity.  
Choice of Major also plays an important role in admission decisions as very 
popular programs can only accommodate a limited number of students each year.

**Seniors should begin applying for college admission at the beginning of 
the 
senior year.  Check deadlines for the college or university of your choice. 

**Seniors should try to make good grades through the last semester of their 
senior year.  TN Lottery scholarships are based on the overall unweighted 
GPA through the 8th semester.

**If you wish to fill out a common admissions application and have it 
forwarded to multiple colleges/universities go to www.commonapp.org. 
There is a fee for this service.

**Prospective college student athletes must register with NCAA Clearinghouse.
Access registration materials: www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.  See your coach or 
counselor with questions. (New requirement to keep in mind is that Nutrition 
Science is no longer accepted as a science credit if you plan to register 
with NCAA.)

**Guidance has information about a joint program between Vol. State in 
Gallatin and Tennessee State University in Nashville.  Students who graduate 
from Vol. State shall be permitted to enroll at Tennessee State at the same 
tuition rate paid at Vol. State.  See your counselor for more information.

**PAVE program at Vanderbilt
Guidance has information on the PAVE summer program at Vanderbilt 
University.  This program is designed for any junior or senior interested in 
pursuing a degree in engineering, pre-medicine, science or technology.  
Please see your counselor for more information.  



JUNIORS

**Lab Science Career Scholarship
All juniors and seniors can apply for a $2,500 scholarship through 
LabScienceCareers.com.  The last day to submit entries is March 7th.  This 
scholarship opportunity is open to all college-bound juniors and seniors 
regardless of major.  Please see your counselor for more information or log 
on to www.labsciencecareers.com.

**Univ. of MS Summer Classes
The University of Mississippi is now taking applications for their summer 
institute.  All 10th and 11th grade students with a 3.2 GPA or a minimum of 
25 on their ACT are invited to apply.  This is a great way to start earning 
college credit and experiencing life on a college campus.  If interested 
please see your counselor.

**PAVE program at Vanderbilt
Guidance has information on the PAVE summer program at Vanderbilt 
University.  This program is designed for any junior or senior interested in 
pursuing a degree in engineering, pre-medicine, science or technology.  
Please see your counselor for more information.  

**Bridge Program at Sewanee
Any juniors interested in math and science can now pick up applications to 
the Bridge Program at Sewanee, the University of the South.  This is a 3 
week 
summer program on Sewanee’s campus.  If interested see your counselor soon 
on 
how to get an application.  Deadline to apply is March 15th.   

**Guidance has information about the Rising Star 2008 program from Savannah 
School of the Arts in Georgia. This challenging five-week program is from 
June 21-July 26. This is a pre-college program for rising high school 
seniors. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2008.  See your counselor for 
information.

**Lambeth University-Men’s Basketball
Guidance has information about several $5,000 scholarships at Lambeth 
University.  These scholarships relate to the Men’s Basketball Program but 
are open to male and female students.  
These scholarships include:
Student Assistant Coach, 
Team Manager, 
Video Coordinator, 
Media Relations, 
Strength and Conditioning, 
Athletic Training
and several other categories.

**Summer School
There will not be a summer school program in Wilson County this year.
Guidance has information about summer school in Nashville, Sumner County and 
Rutherford County.  Please see your counselor for more informtion.
