I. You must have the "DESIRE" to succeed. This means you must be willing to "work" for the desired result. In the real world, you seldom receive something for nothing. II. You must accept the fact that you will make mistakes. But remember, a mistake is only failure if you fail to learn from it. Thomas Edison failed over 400 times before he successfully invented the light bulb. Later, when asked if all of the failed attempts discouraged him, Edison said he never looked at it as failure. He just looked at it as 400 ways not to make a light bulb. Experience is the best teacher and you won't get the experience if you don't do the work and correct your mistakes. III. Pay attention in class and keep up with yor daily work. IV. Always show your work. By doing this, it is easy to locate the exact step in which a mistake was made. This will make you less likely to repeat the same mistake. V. Learn the "PROCESS" for each new concept. Set down and memorize the steps if you need to. VI. Memorize all formulas. You don't have to be a good Math student to memorize. VII. Organize all of your notes, daily work, quizzes and tests. An organized person is always better prepared. VIII. Study in advance so you can get help from a teacher, fellow student or tutor before test time. IX. Study by going over steps and rules and by practicing problems you have worked before; Check them by comparing them to the assignment or quiz the problem came from. X. During a test, skip problems you are not immediately familiar with and come back after finishing the problems you are familiar with. XI. Be in class if at all possible. It is a proven fact, the more class you miss, the less likely you are to get a satisfactory grade. XII. Take notes or highlite notes using colors. Studies show that using color involves the left side of your brain, which is not normally used in rote memorization.
