Rules & Policies

                             Classroom Rules

We will come up with many of the rules for this class as a group, and they
will be posted on the wall after we create them. However, there are some
specific policies of which you should be aware.

*Follow all rules in the student handbook.

*Follow all rules created by the class.

*Be in your assigned seat working on the introductory assignment when the
bell rings. Not meeting any of this requirement will result in your being
marked tardy.

*Cheating of any form will result in a zero on that work.

*Food, drinks, and candy are allowed. Drinks must have a top. Gum is also
allowed as long as it stays in your mouth and does not cause any
interruptions (no popping, bubble blowing, etc.). If the trash is left in
the room, this priviledge will be revoked.

*Students will be given one emergency restroom pass per 4 1/2 weeks to be
used their discretion. Once this is used students will not be allowed to
leave the room for any reason. If the pass is not used, it can be turned in
at the end of the 4 1/2 weeks to drop one low daily grade.

*Do what you are supposed to be doing when you are supposed to be doing it.

Consequences
The decision to follow or break the rules is ultimately up to the
student. However, there are consequences for every decision.

Positive:
When students follow the rules above or created in class, positive
consequences will be awarded such as a note to the parents, coke day, etc.

Negative:
If any of the rules above or created in class are broken, the
following consequences willbe enforced.
1st consequence Verbal Warning, Note to Parents
2nd consequence Fifteen Minute Detention*, Note to Parents
3rd consequence Thirty Minute Detention*, Note to Parents
     4th consequence Sent to Principal
     Severe Clause Sent to Principal
*Detentions will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 7:15
and 7:30 a.m. only.
Thirty minute detentions will be served in two fifteen minute increments.

                                Procedures
                           (things done everyday)

*All written work should be done with blue or black ink or dark pencil on
loose-leaf paper. Do not turn in work torn out of a spiral notebook.

*All work must be legible.

*All work must have the M.L.A. heading--We will go over this in class.

*Work that does not meet these three requirements will be given back to be
redone.

*When you come in the room, you should turn in your homework, get in your
assigned seat, take out all materials, and begin work on your introductory
assignment.

*Many classes will be conducted as centers. All procedures for these should
be followed. (These procedures will be explained later.)

*Graded work will be returned in the boxes at the back of the room. It is
your responsibility to get your work from the box.

*Class is not over until I dismiss you. When the bell rings, you should
remain in your seat until I say you may leave.

*Normally, I do not take late work at all. However, if I make an exception,
you must discuss it with me before school on the date due.

*Make up work for excused absences is the student’s responsibility. All
make up work must be turned in within three days of your return to school.
Quizzes and tests will only be made up before school on Tuesdays and
Thursdays

Any other requirements for specific assignments will be given at
the time the work is assigned.

                               Assignments

Weekly
Vocabulary--We will be doing some type of vocabulary
assignment each week. This will always include a quiz over
the spelling and meaning of the week’s works on Friday.

Sustained Silent Reading (S.S.R.)--Part of class on Friday
will be used for S.S.R.. Each student will be required to bring
some type of reading material. (Newspapers, magazines,
novels, etc. are acceptable as long as the parent approves the
material and the content does not violate school rules.) This
time will be spent with each individual reading (not doing
homework, talking, sleeping, writing notes, etc.). Students
who consistently do not bring something to read will be sent
to the principal.
