How can I help my student do well in spanish?
Though you may not have had much experience in spanish, you can still help
your student succeed. First, encourage your student to study and to ask
questions in class. Also, every week we study a variety of vocabulary, quiz
your student on their vocabulary.
How can I prepare more for the tests?
The tests are made by the teacher, therefore the questions are geared to what
the teacher has taught and tests in a similar matter. To prepare, try making
flash cards of the vocabulry words. Also be sure to take notes. Many of the
examples used in class are often the questions on the test.
How often will we have a test?
The curriculum is geared to begin a section of material composed of
vocabulary and grammar. The material is introduced Monday and Tuesday;
Wednesday is continuing practice, Thursday is review, and Friday is usually
the day of the test. (this is typical, not set in stone)
Why do I have to take spanish?
You do not have to take spanish. However, the college track requires that
students complete two credits of a foreign language. Also, most universities
require at least two units of a single foreign language for admission into
the school.
How is spanish going to help me later on in life?
Aside from helping you to understand what cooks and waiters are saying at
your favorite mexican restaurant, learning a foreign language will help you
in understanding your native language. Also, a foreign language is required
for most majors at a four year college or university.

I feel behind what can I do to catch up?
First, accept that you are behind and will need to do a little more work to
catch up. Also, study your text book, ask questions, and take notes!! In
addition go to the "enlaces" page (links page) and go to some of the on-line
tutorial sites that I have listed there.
What do I need to make on the final to pass the course?
What do I have to make on the final to pass?
1. Take your current average and multiply it by .8
2. That will give you a number between one and eighty.
3. Subtract the number you get from 70. That will either give you a positive
or a negative number. if you get a negative number then no matter what you
get on the exam you will pass. if you get a positive number, you have to
divide that number by .2. The resulting number will be the grade you have to
make on the exam to pass. The minimum average you can have and still pass if
you make a 100 on the exam is 62.5 based on this formula.
EXAMPLE: here it is if I am a student with a current average of 67.6:
67.6 X .8 = 54.08
70 - 54.08 = 15.92
15.92 / .2 = 79.6%
I would have to make a 79.6 on the exam to pass with a 70%.
