Please study the Spelling words every night. Most weeks follow this
pattern. On Monday, students write the words 3 times each. On Tuesday,
students are assigned a page from our Spelling book to do, or they have
a worksheet to do. Study for our trial test on Thursday. Ask your child for
the agenda book. The words are put in the agenda book on Monday for the
week. This will help you know what words to focus on for the test on Friday.
Please work with your child on addition and subtraction facts. Be sure
your child can easily add and subtract basic facts without fingers and give
an answer within five seconds. We are building the foundation of Math.
This is very important.
Please read with your child every night. Have your child read to you.
We need to build fluency on every child. This means that your child
should be increasing the number of words read within a one minute
timed reading. By the end of second grade, a student should be reading
at least 90 words a minute.
Any work not finished at school becomes homework. Most students finish
their work and have very little homework. Check the agenda book for
work that must be completed by the next morning. Ask your child if
the work is done.
