As a teacher and a parent, I feel homework is an essential part of any child's academic growth. I also feel it provides insight to parents as to what is taking place in the classroom on a daily basis. In my room, homework serves two purposes. I use it as a learning tool for students by going over it together the day after it is due. I also use it as an assessment to determine who needs extra help in a certain area and who needs more of a challenge. Your child will have homework on a daily basis. However, we will also have a daily study hall period, which will enable your child to complete his/her work at school. If you would like your child to bring his/her work home, rather than turning it in during the day, just let me know. I would be glad to send it home, so you could look at it together. We will have a weekly spelling word test, so if you could go over the spelling words with your child, it would be very beneficial. We will also have chapter tests in Science and Social Studies. I will provide your child with a study guide for each of these chapter tests. By going over this information together, you increase your child's success. I encourage the children to fill out their agendas daily, and I would appreciate it if you would initial them daily. This tells me your child has shown it to you, and that you are aware of what is taking place in the classroom. I will initial beside any assignments your child completes in class, so, if my initials aren't present, the assignment is not complete, and should be considered homeowrk. The agenda will also be used to list any information regarding upcoming tests.
