Taxonomy: Leaf Classif.
Utilizing detailed observation!
Students sorted through leaves and
used specific characteristics to
establish a system for classifying
their particular assortment of leaves.
Students looked at the margin of
the leaves, the venation patterns
of the leaves, leaf arrangement,
leaf types, ...etc.
After the pattern for the group was
established, the group organized
their leaves so they could be
examined by the other four groups.
Groups spent a short time at each
group's station to make
observations and to develop a
hypothesis as to how that
particular group classified its
assortment of leaves.
Each group conferred and came to a
unified hypothesis, which was
recorded.
Each group visited the other four
stations and repeated the
exploration until they arrived back
at their own station. Then groups
shared what their classification
system was based on.
