THE SCIENCE CONTENT STANDARDS YOUR CHILD MUST MEET ARE LOCATED
ON ANOTHER PAGE FOUND THROUGH THE HOME PAGE!!!! THE TITLE OF THAT
PAGE IS SCIENCE STANDARDS!!
As a class we are working towards meeting the Science Standards, so we can be
prepared for the TCAP test and the 8th Grade Science Curriculum. It is
important to realize that the scores resulting from this year's tests, which are quickly
approaching, will be used for next year's Freshman registration!! It is very important
that students do well!!
                    ** Educational(TCAP Test) Effectiveness Suggestions!!!!!!! **
1. Write down every assignment in an agenda/planner right when it is given
out.
2. Work every minute of every class period to finish the work assigned in
that class. When a student finishes early, they should look over the material and study
for their next test, work on assignments for another class, or read their AR book. In
other words, they should continue their learning every moment spent at school.
3. When an assignment is not finished, then it becomes HOMEWORK, which is
taken home to be worked on until completed that night! It is not left at school to
be finished in another class tomorrow!
4. When a test is assigned, students should prepare several days by studying
the key terms, ideas, and concepts of the curriculum. Note cards are great for this.
(Every time you write something down; its like saying it 7 times in your head) Write
things out to remember them!!!
5. Every morning in advisory, your child has anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes
to work on incomplete work, AR, and study for upcoming tests. This time needs to be
used daily!
6. At home, all homework and studying should be completed before any other
activities are participated in. When there is no homework encourage computer
searches on related topics. Most new textbooks provide computer connections
and further learning opportunities for the curriculum. This emphasizes the
importance of an education over all other activities. (Work before Play)
7. Set a regular time, every night, to look at your child's work for the
next day!!! Emphasize the value of learning through your consistant interested in their
achievement.
8. Use Lesson Line or the school's website every night to check up on your
child's work. Regardless of whether they say it is complete or not. Get the numbers
for each teacher!!
9. Require your child to bring home work every night for you to check over,
even when they say its finished. Discuss the assignment with your child and find out
about their day. Remember that the world looks much different through the eyes of your
child. They need help in understanding why things are the way they are. They see
themselves as the center of the world!! Note: With this in mind; a healthy
dose of disbelief is good when dealing with your young adolescent!
10. Students have to know their grades are important to you not just on
report card day and that you support the teachers and administrators or they will not work
for them or respect learning! Students see education through the eyes of their parents!?!?
11. Require your child to bring home every graded paper for you to look over
and discuss together. Work on keeping a running average for every nine week
period for every class. Talk about what they need to get on assignments and tests to
make the grades they need and you expect!
12. Set a grade goal in every subject and work towards it weekly to keep it
in focus.
