For Parents

Walter J. Baird library operates on a flexible schedule. Your child will be allowed to visit the
library from any class with teacher permission--they do not have a set time that they will come
to the library to check out a book. The library is open every day from 7:40 until 2:40. Books are
checked out for a two week period. It will be your child's responsibility to return the book on
time. We do have an overdue fine of 5 cents per day that the book is late. Weekends and
days that school are not in session are not used in calculating fines. Students do have a three day
grace period built into our computer system. If a book is late, but returned within three days, the
overdue fined is waived. Your child will be visiting the library not only to check out books, but also
with various classes as research assignments are made.

Our students will be continuing to participate in our reading program that we began last year called,
"Readiing for Success."
For our returning 8th grade students, the program will only have a few minor changes this year. Your
teachers will be discussing these with you as we begin the program. For our 7th grade and new 8th
grade students, information wll be given to you and the guidelines will be explained to you by your
teachers as soon as we are ready to launch the program.
