Mrs. Johnson has seventeen years experience in the classroom as well as
holding classes in junior colleges and art academies. She is a lifelong lover
of art who considers teaching art a lifestyle rather than a profession.
She has recently completed (May 2009) a three day workshop at the Appalachian
Crafts Center with Melody Tiemann on handbuilt ceramics. Last June 2009, she
attended a three day workshop on portraits with the Russian master Igor
Babailov. On June 16 and 17,she attended a workshop at the Federal Reserve
that provided her with an endorsement to teach personal finance. On September
10, she attended a presentation on the future of the labor market. On November
17, Mrs. Johnson attended a full day workshop based on the works of two famous
American artists-Georgia O'Keeffe and Thomas Hart Benton.
Art Appreciation gives the student an overview of art history and techniques.
Exploring the different ways to create art might spark a lifelong interest in
art or develop a craft. Students will be able to confidently appreciate and
understand the value of artworks. Careers in visual art will be explained.
An art vocabulary will be cultivated for further studies or personal
education.
