How does AR work at CHUE?

The students take a STARS test at the beginning of the school year. The
test determines a reading level in which each student will be
successful. The AR program has a formula for deciding how many
points are appropriate for a certain reading level for each 9 week
grading period. One student's goal for the 9 weeks may be 15 points
and another student's may be 28 points. It's all relative to each child's
success level. The students are tested again in the middle of the year
and again at the end to determine growth throughout the year. I report to
the students on a weekly basis and keep a chart to show them where
they are and where they need to be each week to meet their goals by the
end of the nine weeks. I'll be glad to explain this further on an individual
basis if you would like for me too.

Is AR a grade?

Yes. AR is part of the Reading grade. AR itself is comprised
of 2 scores. One score is for the percentage of points earned, and the
other score is for the percentage of correct answers. Each 9 weeks the
students start at 0. The students receive rewards each 9 weeks for
having 100% of their points and 85+% correct.
