AR is a reading program that builds fluency and comprehension skills.Back to Top
The student reads a book on their reading level. In the beginning the student will need to read the book more than one time for thorough comprehension. He/she will take a comprehension test on the computer. (On occasion, the student may not always be able to take their test the day they return their book, in which case the parent may review/reread the book with their child.) The student earns points based on percentage of correct answers. The students are required to take one AR test a week on the current library or classroom book they have read and they will be given a grade for the completed test.Back to Top

What do I do if my child is absent?
Send a note when your child returns. Your child will be responsible for copying down the previous day's assignments in his/her agenda book and turning them in the following day. If your child misses several days, that will be addressed as needed. If you want your child's assignments, you may come into the classroom after 2:50 and copy down the assignments from the board and get necessary books, etc.Back to Top

It is an integrated It is an approach to enhance the academic and social behavior supports needed to be an effective learning environment for ALL our students! We will be focusing on positive behavior and each month there will be an activity for your child as he/she earns the amount of ROAR stamps needed to attend. This will hopefully encourage the faculty and staff here at Byars Dowdy to focus on positive behavior and reward those students who are doing what is right.Back to Top
