How can I be successful in math class?

Complete all assignments on time.  Ask questions in class when you do not understand.  Take notes in 
a organized manner to help when struggling with work at home.

Can I turn in work late?

Students who do not turn in work on time will be sent to the learning lab to compete assignment.  The 
highest grade a student can receive for learning lab work is 80%.

Using the total point system how do I find my average?

Add the total possible points.  Add the total earned points. Divide earned total by possible total.

What can I do at home to help aid my success in mathematics?

Work problems for 15 minutes every night.  This will help you review the steps learned that day and put 
this information into long term memory.  When you are given a new formula write it down every time 
you use it, until you have it memorized.  Learn all definitions and terms when given to you.

How can I get extra credit?

I will give extra credit opportunities to the class each grading period.  I do not give opportunities to 
individual students.  Please take advantage of each change you are given to raise your grade.

What is a Level One?

A level one is part of a school wide discipline plan.  A teacher can give level ones for offenses that are 
corrected in the classroom.  When a student receives 5 level ones the student is the referred to the 
office for further disciplinary action.

What is the consequence for being tardy?

School wide policy states student will receive a level one.

Offense must be corrected and student will receive a level one.

What is reading for success (R4S)?

All students at Walter J. Baird participate in R4S.  This is 30 minutes of sustained silent reading.  
Students have choices to report on their reading which are explained in their R4S contract.  If 
students complete their reading for the grading period they receive 5 points to be added to any 
average they choose.
