Can I visit my child's classroom?

Absolutely! Please stop by the office first and ask the secretary to buzz down to our room to make
sure
we are not engaged in testing. I am sure that you never want to interrupt learning in the classroom.
Your support is greatly appreciated.

What is Accelerated Reader?

AR is a reading program that builds fluency and comprehension skills.

How does AR work?

The student reads a book on their reading level. In the beginning the
student will need
to read the
book more than one time for thorough comprehension. He/she will bring their
book
back and take a
comprehension test on the computer. (On occasion, the student may not always
be
able to take their
test the day they return their book, in which case the parent may
review/reread the
book with their
child.) The student earns points based on percentage of correct answers.

When do I send lunch money?

Lunch money should be sent on the first day of the week in an envelope
marked lunch and with your child's name on it. You may also send it in monthly.

Should I walk my child to class each day?

No. In third grade we are trying to teach the students to be responsible for
themselves. Please allow your child to be responsible for getting to the
classroom, getting necessary materials, and starting the day on his/her own.
This instills a sense of accomplishment and pride that carries over into the
academic forum.

What time is breakfast served?

Breakfast starts at 7:15. School starts promptly at 7:50.

Can my child bring toys to school?

No.

What do I do if my child is absent?

Send a note when your child returns. Your child will be responsible for
copying down the previous day's assignments in his/her agenda book and
turning them in the following day. If your child misses several days, that
will be addressed as needed. If you want your child's assignments, you may
come into the classroom after 2:50 and copy down the assignments from the
board and get necessary books, etc.

What do I do if my child is late?

If you arrive after 7:50 you will need to bring your child in, go to the
office, and get a
tardy slip.
