Cub Club is a strategic intervention program designed to meet the
specific needs of students. During Cub Club time, students are
engaged in research-based activities in a small-group setting.
The First Nine Weeks...
Kindergarten teachers provide the Cub Club intervention afterschool. During Cub Club time, students
practice phonemic awareness skills (especially rhyming). Teachers also read books with the children to
work on listening and comprehension skills.
First Grade Reading Cub Club is taught by Mrs. Tipton, first grade
teacher, and Mrs. Lowery, learning leader. During Reading Cub Club
time, students practice letter recognition, letter sounds, and writing
one syllable words.
First Grade Math Cub Club is taught by Mrs. Tipton and Ms. Melanie,
paraprofessional. During Math Cub Club time, students practice
number identification (1-10) and number order.
Second Grade Reading/ Math Cub Club is taught by the second grade teachers, Mrs. Lowery, and Ms.
Lita, paraprofessional. During Reading Cub Club time, students develop decoding skills through
phonics instruction in order to build fluency.
During Math Cub Club time, students count/ order/ write numbers (1-100), identify numbers before/
after, odd/ even, skip-counting, and basic addition.
