In order to help students have a smooth transition to 5th and 6th grades at CHUE, I visit all 4th
grades classes at Byars Dowdy, Coles Ferry and Sam Houston Schools during May and give them
introductory materials and handouts for Castle Heights. All 4th grade students also come and visit
Castle Heights, meet several people they will be working with in the coming year and take a tour
around the building. Parents are also welcome to come and tour the building. We feel this will
lessen some of the anxiety of coming to a new school.
All 6th grade students are given information from Walter J. Baird School to help them make a smooth
transition. They also go and visit Walter J. Baird, meet several people they will be working with and
take a tour of the building. We hope this helps prepare them for Walter J. Baird.
