After being a stay-at-home for many years to our three daughters, Shelly,
Katie, and Abbey, I went back to school at UTM to complete a degree I had
begun after High School. I completed my B.S. degree in 1997 and began
teaching at Martin Elementary the fall of 1998.
We have three grown daughters. Shelly teaches first grade in Memphis (Shelby
County), Abbey works for the Memphis Zoo in marketing, and Katie recently
returned from Disney's Animal Kingdom to begin work on a Master's Degree in
Elementary Education at UTM. All three of our girls completed their
undergraduate degrees at UTM as well.
I am married to Phil Dane who is the Athletic Director at UTM. We have
been married since December 29, 1972, and have lived in Martin all our lives
except for the 7 years he was in the Air Force and then in the Air National
Guard. During those 7 years we lived in Biloxi, MS; Colorado Springs, CO;
Cookeville, TN; Nashville, TN; then back to Martin.
I have been teaching third grade since I began teaching in 1998 and I love
this age group. Every year it is my goal to make learning a fun experience,
to help "my children" develop a love for learning, and to show them that I
care about them as individuals.
It is my prayer every morning that I will be the teacher God wants me to be
in my classroom.
