Periodically, we'll have a book to read at home. These are very easy books
to read that will repeat and reinforce the children's sight words. Please

Review sight words. Remember our Skittles quiz on Fridays!
Try sounding out short vowel words (for example, cat, dog, run, cup, etc.).
Write short sentences for your child using our sight words.
Work on writing first name with appropriate capitals and lower case letters.
Count items to 10. Write numbers to 10.
Rote Count to 50 or MORE! (We'd like to be at 100 by the end of the
year.)Write numbers from 1 to 20.
Count down from 10.
Practice saying the alphabet.
Practice writing and identifying the sound of the letters we cover.
Look for the letters while driving around town. Look for things that begin
with them while watching television, looking at books or driving around town.
Read those sight words. The "homework" books are designed to reinforce
these words.
Practice making short vowel words such as cat, hot, sit, cut, let, etc. Talk
about how silent e (We call it sneaky e) changes the vowel sound to a long
sound (so that the vowel says it's name).
