1. Students are expected to participate in PE each time that the class meets. There are times when a student may not feel well, or be coming back after an illness when they will be allowed to take part as they feel like it. 2. Tennis shoes are the only acceptable footwear that is allowed on PE days on the gym floor. This as much a safety issue as anything. Most footwear other than tennis shoes simply do not allow for lateral movement and cause many falls. Sandals, flip-flops, boots, crocs, and dress shoes are not allowed on the floor. When students are not wearing proper footwear, they will not participate in the days activity, but will be required to have some sort of physical activity for the entire period. In order to meet state requirements, they are not allowed to sit and watch. They need to be able to participate! 3. Students who have broken bones or who have other valid medical reasons are not required to participate in PE. Medical excuses from their physician are expected to be placed on file. At the time when the cast/splint is removed, an updated medical note from the Doctor that spells out limitations or participation levels is needed before the student can return to PE. 4. Our PE classes are not based on who can excel at the activities, but rather who can put forth their best effort. Students are encouraged to always make their best effort regardless of the outcome in the activity. Winning is not stressed in our program, however, good sportsmanship is. 5. Students are expected to treat others with respect and dignity. Personal responsibility is stressed daily. Listening skills are an important part of any Physical Education program. Safety skills are expected to be followed as much as the grade level will allow.
