Dates to Remember: 5/1 - Mid 6 weeks reports go home 4/30 to 5/4 - TCAP week 5/7 & 9 - Our PAS Tests (Reading & Math) 5/10 - 1st grade field trip (wear field trip t-shirts) 5/11 - No School (Strawberry Festival) 5/16 - 8:00 Awards Day (Wilson's class) 5/18 - Field Day in the morning 5/24 - Last day of school (Breakfast at school) This week we are reading the story Ben Franklin and his First Kite. Please practice our vocabulary words and high frequency words at home with your child this week. High Frequency Words: answered, brothers, carry, different, poor. Skills: Long Vowels i, o: as in hold, most, wild, mind. Prefixes un-, re- as in unpack, repack, undo, resend. The prefix un- means not or the opposite of. the prefix re- means again. Theme: Every story has a big idea. Good readers use things that have happened to them in their own lives to help them understand the big idea of a story. Grammar: Pronouns A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun or nouns. I, you, he, she, it, we, and they are used in the naming part of the sentence. Me, you, him, her, it, us and them are used in the telling/action part of the sentence. Amazing words and definitions to know: 1. Contraption - a machine, some are strange. 2. Doubt - a feeling of not believing in yourself or not knowing. 3. Energy - something takes strength. 4. Glider - an airplane without an engine that is kept up in the air by the wind. 5. Unmanned - a plane without a pilot. 6. Soar - something can fly high in the air. 7. Curious - strange or unusual. 8. Intelligent - bright or smart.
