OREO is our class mascot! When your child is the class leader,
he/she will bring home our class mascot, Oreo, her babies, and her journal.
We want your child to write about his/her adventures with Oreo in her
journal. It is acceptable for your child to scribble, draw, write random
letters, or actually write words. Your child’s writing will depend onhis/her
level of writing ability. Parents/guardians/siblings may help but encourage
your child to do as much as possible on his/her own, as it will be more
meaningful.
Remember to have your child write his/her name and date on their
page. Oreo, her journal, and her belongings should be returned to school the
next school day. It will be interesting to see your child’s writing skills
progress throughout the year and to read about Oreo’s adventures at each
classmate’s house. When your child returns Oreo to school, he/she will sit
in the Author’s Chair and share Oreo’s adventures with the class.
If Oreo or her bag looks dirty please bathe her in the washing
machine and dry her in the dryer- skip the bathtub, toilet, swimming pool,
or the dog’s water bowl! Treat her as an overnight guest- you’ll have a fun
time together.
This is wonderful and meaningful opportunity for you and your child to write
and read together. Please take advantage of it.
