Policies and Procedures

MRS. PRITCHARD'S FIFTH GRADE

2007 - 2008

HOMEWORK POLICY

Students are responsible for copying their homework assignment in their School Planner each day. If they are absent they are responsible for getting their assignments and completing them in a timely manner. Homework counts as 25% of the student's grade. Students will be assigned detention to complete work that wasn't turned in when due.

INDEPENDENT READING

Students are required to read independently.

Students' grade for independent reading will be calculated as follows:

Points Earned Grade

20 100%

15 90%

10 80%

5 70%

0 60%

Forms for fiction and /or non-fiction reading are available in the classroom. Students will be given "4" points credit or the score assigned by Accelerated Reader, for each book read. Students may not receive credit if the reading material is far below their reading ability or it is determined that the material is too difficult for them to comprehend.

READING LOGS

Students' homework assignment will include 15 minutes of reading each night except Friday. This reading should be the same book they are reading for Independent Reading but if the student doesn't have that book at home another reading is acceptable. Please listen to your child's reading and note any improvements or concerns that you have. Reading logs are checked each day and turned in on Friday. This counts as 25% of the student's grade and will receive a "0" without the parent's signature.

REPORTS

Students will bring home progress reports after 15 days of each reporting period. A report card will be issued at the end of the reporting period. Please return these signed reports as soon as possible. As needed, a copy of a test will be sent home for your information. Please return these signed test papers the following day or the student may be assigned detention until the paper is returned.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR

Students should be respectful. Any behavior that interferes with an orderly school day and the right for each child to be educated is unacceptable. If a problem arises one or more consequences will be necessary. The student may be reprimanded, they may be sent to school detention, the teacher may call a parent for a conference, or the student may be sent to the principal's office.

READING GRADES

Students' grades will be based on the following criteria:

Tests 25%

Homework 25%

Independent Reading 25%

End of Unit Test 25%
