8th Grade Homework

Third six weeks in 8th grade English: we have been continuing to work
on writing essays for the state writing test in February. We have spent a
great deal of time practicing in class on different topics, and reviewing
for our Mid-Term Exam. The Mid-Term Review is:

Commas - WB pg. 282, 288, 289
Capitalization - WB pg. 270-272
Titles - WB pg. 302-304
Adjectives WB pg. 36-38
Adverbs WB pg. 54-56
Apostrophes WB pg. 310-311
Sentence Combining Text pg. 281 ex. 4, and 284 Ex. 6
Fragments and Run-Ons Text pg. 278 ex 3, and 325 ex. 1

We are working through this review in class, although students may
check out a workbook and work on this at study hall or at home if they wish.
This will be taken up after we review all pages. We will have periodic
quizzes as we reveiw each section.

After Christmas, we will continue to work on essays. We will really
work hard during the month of January on different topics and being timed on
our writing, since we will be timed on the state-assessed test. All of this
practice will be done in class, and students should not have homework while
we are writing essays. At the end of February, we will continue to work on
grammar usage and parts of speech. After Christmas, I will post page
numbers in the textbook that align with what we are studying.
