Welcome to Mrs. Oakley's 5th Grade Science class! I am so excited to
be a part of the 5th grade team this year and to be the science teacher.
Science has always been one of my favorite subjects, so I look forward to
sharing my love for this incredibly interesting field of study!
I would like to take this opportunity to share a few things about me.
My family has always lived in Medina. I was the oldest of three daughters,
graduated from Medina High School in 1974, and finished my Bachelor of
Science degree in Elementary Education at Union University in 1979. I
married my high school sweetheart, John, in 1975. He is a quality manager
at the TBDN Company in Jackson. We have two beautiful daughters -
Beth and Katie. Beth graduated from Tennessee Tech University in
Cookeville, TN with a BS degree in Elementary Education and finished her
Masters in Reading at Vanderbilt University. Beth is married , and she and
her husband moved to Atlanta where Paul is attending Pharmacy school. Beth
is a 5th Grade teacher at Simpson Elementary School. Katie is a senior at
Tennessee Tech University, majoring in Biochemistry. She plans to
attend medical school and become a pediatrician. She is very active in
taking mission trips to Romania with our church.
Our family is very active in Medina First Baptist Church. I teach an
adult ladies Sunday School class and work with the children's programs on
Wednesday nights.
Some of my favorite hobbies are reading, sewing, cooking, and spending
time with my family. My favorite vacation spots are the beach and the
mountains.
This is my 15th year of teaching, and I enjoy it more each year. This
is a very honorable profession, and one that is very rewarding. I am very
proud to be a part of your children's lives this year, and look forward to
the opportunity and challenge of making a difference in their lives.
My mission for the 5th grade Science class is to instill in students an
eagerness to learn about our wonderful world through the life, earth, and
physical sciences.
