If inclement weather or other emergencies force the closing of schools, information will be given as early as possible over the following stations:

Please do not call the radio or TV stations, teachers, or other school personnel.

If no announcement is made concerning the delay or dismissal of school, then school will be in regular session.

In case of a crisis situation, all Milan Elementary School staff members have been assigned a duty with the purpose of creating a calm and controlled atmosphere. It is imperative that everyone carry out their duties to insure that all students and staff are safe.

There are two types of crisis situations-- those which require students and staff to remain in the building, and those which require students and staff to evacuate the building.

Situations Requiring Remaining in Building: Hostage, Intruder, Tornado, Severe Weather

Situations Requiring Evacuating the Building: Fire, Earthquake, Bomb Threat, Gas Leak or Chemical Spill, Tornado Aftermath

IF an emergency event takes place, we ask you as the parent/guardian to cooperate with our procedures in order to provide a safe and orderly dismissal of the students.

STUDENT PICK-UP PROCEDURE FROM INSIDE SCHOOL BUILDING:

If it is necessary to dismiss students from inside the building during normal school hours, parents should report to the office to sign students out. A staff member will bring students to the office. After signing the sign-out sheet, parents are asked to wait in the area directly outside the office until their children are brought to them.

STUDENT PICK-UP PROCEDURE FROM OUTSIDE SCHOOL BUILDING (EVACUATION):

If there is an emergency that requires evacuation of the building, all students are assigned to an outdoor base by grade level. To pick up your child from outside the building, you will need to enter from US 45E and proceed as shown on the diagram below to the base for your child's grade level. Each grade level is designated by a circle with the grade number inside. Park your car in the parking area designated for that grade level and proceed to the base to sign your child out. All cars must exit from Middle Road.
