No Child Left Behind

The purpose of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.  Part of this legislation is accomplished by affording parents substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.  It is the intent of Milan schools to provide these opportunities.

·         School Board Policy # 4.502 (Parent/Family Involvement in Educational Programs) is reviewed annually and parent in-put is encouraged.

·         Parents will receive written notification if a teacher is employed for over four consecutive weeks (20 days) who does not meet the highly qualified requirements of NCLB.

·         Parents may request information about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teacher(s) and paraprofessional(s).

·         MSSD currently has no school identified for School Improvement by the State Department of Education.  Parents will be notified if there is a change in status.

·         Safe and Drug Free school programs and activities other than classroom instruction are provided.  If a parent objects, in writing, the school system will withdraw the student from the program or activity.

·         School Board Policy # 6.4001 (Student Surveys) is reviewed annually to be sure that it meets their requirement of the student’s right to privacy.
