About The Teacher
In August 2008, I started my 20th year of teaching (I think). I have
taught in Mississippi, Alabama, and now Tennessee. Being a first grade
teacher is special for me! The faces of the students when they realize that
they can read is "priceless". The students make teaching a most rewarding
profession.
I was born and raised in Mississippi. I graduated from Jett High School in
Vicksburg, MS. (It no longer exists.) I graduated with a BS in Elementary
Education from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS.
Upon graduation, I obtained a teaching job in Natchez, MS, where I taught
2nd grade. After two years my roommate and I had the bright idea of moving
to a semi-big city, Huntsville, AL. These two little country bumpkins were
hired by the Huntsville City School System. At night, Huntsville had lots
and lots of cars still on the road(highway)after dark.
Huntsville is special to me for two very important reasons. I met and
married my husband, LeHugh Barnes. Three years later our son, Bryan Michael
Barnes was born. He is the most wonderful son a mother could have!
My husband is originally from Camden. He is employed as a cost accountant
at Ceco Door. That is how I came to live and work here. Our son lives and
works in Maryland. He grew up an only child but in April 2001, he married
Aileen Erickson from Des Plaines, IL, giving me a precious daughter. (Also a
grandcat, Chessie.)(Until last year we thought Chessie was a girl cat.
Surprise! Surprise! Chessie is a boy cat!)
Bryan is employed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and
Aileen is employed by the National Institute of Health. So far no grandchild,
but I still hold out hope.
I love learning, teaching first grade, reading, watching Survivor, Law and
Order, visiting places I have never been before, and working in my yard in the
summer, especially mowing the yard with MY John Deere!!!! (My neighbors say I
don't let my husband ride it. They are mistaken. He DOES get to ride it into
the garage.)
The mission for my class is to involve the students, families, MES faculty,
staff, and community in providing an inviting, safe atmosphere in which
students can achieve their full potential intellectually, socially,
emotionally, physically, and morally.
