Here's a recap of the week's activities.
Mrs. Tassin's room This week we read a story about people with disabilities. Thanks to eighth
grader, Baylee Farrar, who came and spoke to the class about autism. Baylee is writing a book about
autism and told us some facts about it. Nurse Mindy came and answered questions too.
Mrs. Winfrey's room
We have been working on identifying genres of literature by looking at various writings about
Christmas. We found out about the myths and legends of the season. Coming up will be the reading
of O'Henry's "The Gift of the Magi" and the forms and parodies of that story.
Mrs. Collins's room "Bah Humbug!" The words of Scrooge can be heard as we read, "A Christmas
Carol". What a great classic that one can never tire of at the holidays.
Mrs. Hines's room "Roman Fever" had a read twist to it! There was irony all over the story but we
just saw it at the end!
Mrs.Spain's class is studying the way west!
In Mrs. Rinke's room, we move into a study of the Islamic people and compare the religions.
Mrs. Dollar's class We continue "Caravans" this week in preparation for the "geography bee" after
Christmas. Teams were formed and then the traveling began . Teams had to "purchase" supplies
and plan a strategy to travel the world, collecting gold from various destinations. As the team moves
across the globe, various tasks will be assigned to research, locate, name, draw, (to name a few) as
well as receive "fate" cards. (Oops! Sometimes, those fates could bring trouble!) It will be fun to see
which team will collect the most gold nuggets by December 17! Bon Vovage!
Mr. Fields class will be learning about the early days of the new country and the Cumberland Road.
Mr. Verner's class
It's Christmas project time! We looked at the project to create a Christmas card about how a
country celebrates Christmas. We are looking forward to learning about Christmas in other lands.
December 13 is a special day in Sweden. Who knows why?
AR at the middle school is really emphasized with twenty minutes of reading everyday in reading
class!
Monday night is a home basketball game against Rutherford. It's spirit day on Monday so wear
purple and white to support the team!
This week the MMS band will present the holiday concert Tuesday night at 7:00. Come out to hear
the band.
The countdown to the holidays has begun!
Have a great week! Let's make December a great month!
