School counseling consists of the following:
Classroom Guidance - Lessons include topics such as character
education, bullying prevention, self esteem, and conflict resolution.
Small Group Counseling - generally made up of approximately 4-8
students.
Examples of topics that may be discussed include:
*Peer relationships
*Divorce
*Study skills
*Choices
Individual Counseling - is provided for students who want to talk
about private issues that interfere with their schoolwork.
Elementary school counseling is:
*A process of interaction between the counselor and student.
*Goal-directed
*Confidential-Individual counseling is based on a trusting
relationship between the student and the counselor. Information
discussed in a session will be kept confidential unless there is
a condition or situation which indicates danger either to the child or
someone else, or suspect of child abuse.
Elementary school counseling is not:
*A quick-fix.
*Therapy.
*Advice giving.
*Judgmental.
*The counselor solving the students problems.
