August 11 - 14, 2009 We will start using our textbook this week. Our first story is, "Because of Winn-Dixie." The students will read the story independently, read it aloud, and have a chance to read it to a peer, and/or listen to it on tape before they will be given a test on Friday going over the story. They should be familiar with the vocabualary words introduced this week. (Please refer to the "Family Times" sheet placed in their Agenda on Monday.) Our skill for the week is over "Sequencing." Students will complete Workbook pages 3 - 10 over the course of the week covering skills in Sequencing, Vocabulary, Author's Purpose, and Map/Globe skills. I will take some pgs up as we go, and here at first, we'll do some together. Just so you know, I want have them pull out a page until we have completed both front/back w/o for some reason I don't like one side or the other. If this is the case, then I'll have them cross it out with a big "X." We won't always complete every workbook pg with each story. It really depends on the skill, and purpose of the wb page. We will, however, almost always do the Vocabulary page that is on the back side of the first skill page with each story. It is easy to recognize for at the top of each page it shows that weeks story's title. It is very important that your child read. Reading any kind of material is reading. What kinds of things do they enjoy? Tap into their interest, encourage them, and let them see you slow down to read too. Remember, our children imitate the behaviors they observe.
Or, would you like to view and optionally restore one of these previous versions?
