ANNOUNCEMENTS

WEEKLY MEMO -

MIDTERMS: Students will receive midterms for the 2nd nine weeks on
Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Please remember this is only a notification of
your students academic progress so far. Please monitor student agenda and
weekly folder for daily feedback.

MJE Parents,

Our school is making plans to initiate a spelling bee competition for grade 1-
5 within the homeroom.
Step One: Students should first learn the 50 study words for their grade
level and the grade level above. A word list will be provided each student.
If they lose their list they can print them out at home using the website
links below.
Step Two: Once students in grades 3 -5 first masters the 50 study words for
their grade and the next highest grade level they may go on to the higher
grade level words in the grades 1–8. Example - if a student is in third grade
they would not go back to the lists in grades one and two. If necessary the
teacher could use words in the higher grade level list and the 2010 Spell It!
(I would not recommend this list to students in grades 1 & 2).
*Teachers will be providing the initial spelling list for the students to
study. The homeroom teachers will use the student grade level list and above
to determine the class winner.

RECORDERS FOR MUSIC: Please make sure your child brings a recorder to music
class. If your student doesn't have one from 4th grade, one may be purchased
through Ms. Dickens. It is difficult to learn the skills being taught if
students are not prepared. Not being prepared for music is like not bringing
a pencil to math class.

AGENDAS:
Please sign the agenda every night. This is a great communication tool for
teachers as well as parents to mark the progress of your student. Each
teacher has a different color of ink they correspond in. Missing
assignments and also daily behavior are noted in the agenda. If you see
that your child is receiving a lot of marks you may want to contact me to
set up a conference.

WEEKLY FOLDERS:
There will be a lot of information coming home in the weekly folders on
Mondays. Please review, sign and return the empty folder and any papers
that need to be returned to school on Tuesday
