Every week, your child will receive a spelling list on Monday that will be
stapled or taped into his or her agenda. Please review these words with your
child for 5 to 10 minutes a night. If you would like to help them more than
5 to 10 minutes that will be great. You can also play spelling games with
your child. For example: Give your child one of his/her spelling words and
have them spell the word with playdough, or have them spell the word out
loud and for each correct letter they win an M&M. Be creative!
Also each week on Fridays, your child will receive a reading word list.
These are the words in our story of the week, and we will test on these
words on Thursdays. Please read over these words with your child every night
at least 5 to 10 minutes along with the spelling words. Try using note
cards, and write each reading word on one note card. Mix the note cards up
and use them as homemade flashcards. Your child must be able to read the
word to me in 3 seconds or less to be counted correct. They can not sound
out the word, they must know it by sight.
Any other homework such as math, phonics, or English will be put in the
homework section of the BEAR notebook. Please check this every night. The
only nights I may give this kind of homework is Monday, Tuesday, or
Thursday.
