Do students have homework every night?

They should read their book or some other reading every night for 15-30
minutes. Other homework includes finishing work from class, working on a
long term project,or studying for a test.

How does a student get assignments if they have been absent?

If a student is absent, either excused or unexcused, they have the right to
make up any test, quiz, or project. When students return from absence, they
must pick up the assignments from the make-up box. Any handouts should be
in the box. It is a good idea to have a buddy in class who can explain the
assignments, or be sure to ask Mrs. Wood after writing the assignments in
your agenda.

Does everyone have an English book?

No. They should have a workbook and they will have a Vocabulary Workshop
book. I do not issue English books because we do not use them on a daily
basis. I have extra books if a child needs it to do make-up work. That is
not generally needed, but available.

Do students have to read an AR book?

Yes, I use the AR tests as a diagnostic assessment. It is not a grade, but
can help their grade. It is never used to lower their grade on a book
report.

Do you give extra credit?

I will not be giving extra credit, but I do have two ways that students can
earn points. 1. They can earn points to deposit in their bank account.
These points can be earned in a number of ways -- going above and beyond on
an assignment; doing extra book reviews; being table washers; donating books
to the class; acts of kindness noticed by the teacher (not those reported to
me); answering questions Mrs. Wood might put on teacherweb; using words from
our word wall in everyday conversation.

Do students have an opportunity to work on homework at school?

They might have an opportunity (no more than 15 minutes) in RICA. They is
up to the different teachers and won't happen every day. They should plan
to do their homework the night it is assigned rather than wait until the
next night to complete it.
