Well, we have certainly started this school year off with a bang! I am
really enjoying getting to know your children. They are a really great
group!

Now, on to school things, we are starting Saxon Phonics homework this week!
Please remember that, no matter how silly the homework my seem to you, please
just do it! Allow your child to review the sheet with you, and explain to
you what they did in class. This review and repetition is so very extremely
important to the process of their learning to read. For a while, I will
continue to send home name practice writing assignments. As your child
masters this skill, I will slowly phase out of that and in to a different
type of writing homework. In the meantime, the Phonics sheet doincreasingly
become more dififcult and more demanding. I will keep that in consideration,
and will always try to keep their homework time at a maximum of 15 minutes.

Scholastic book orders will be sent home the first MOnday of every
month....that's the plan at least. I like to give you all two weeks to have
them returned, so they are due on the second Friday of every month. Thank
you all for participating in the book club during the month of August. Our
class spent $240 and raised over 1,600 bonus points for our class!!!!
YEAH!!! That's an amazing first order! Thank you!

Just a few reminders, some of us need to continue to work on our lunch
numbers, please continue to complete each night's homework and sigh the
behavior sheet each night. Finally, please read to your child every day.
Pretty soon, your child will be reading to you, and you will miss the days
when the two of you would cuddle up on the couch and you would read them a
story. It's so very important for the children to see that you enjoy reading
as well. This is definitely a very positive form of motivation for them.

Thank you all for being so wonderful and supportive thusfar. Let's continue
to keep the lines of communication open. I am bound to make several mistakes
along the way. Please don't hesitate to point them out. Your children don't
hesitate, neither should you. haha :o)
