About The Teacher
Amy Woods received her Bachelor's Degree in Art Education from Tennessee Tech University. Before becoming an art teacher, she worked in the theatre as an actress, scenic artist and costume designer. A native of Crossville, she has lived in Cookeville for 24 years. Prior to teaching at Prescott, Mrs. Woods taught visual art in White County for two years. She has been teaching at Prescott since the Fall of 2000. Betsy Huddleston received her Bachelor's Degree from The Ohio State University and taught in Ohio for two years before moving to Tennessee. Betsy has lived in Cookeville for 19 years and shares her home with her husband Terry, and her two children Kevin and Taylor Faragher. This is Mrs. Huddleston's 12th year at Prescott (she's been here from the beginning). In addition to teaching art, both Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Huddleston are active artists themselves. Mrs. Woods is a painter who works primarily in acrylics and, also, creates "paper quilting designs". Mrs. Huddleston loves to draw and also enjoys graphic design.
Mission Label:
Mission
At Prescott, we strive to provide students with a well-rounded experience in visual art. Classes are designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn about art criticism, history, and application. For most of our fifth grade students, this is their first experience of learning art from an art professional. Therefore, we cover the basic elements of art--shape, form, line, color, value, space and texture. We enjoy using a broad variety of media with our students--paint, clay, metal, paper mache and, sometimes, even salt, to name a few! It keeps art fun and interesting for the students and provides opportunities for everyone to enjoy success in their artwork. In sixth grade art we will be building on the elements of art that students learned in their fifth grade art class. They will be working on more challenging and extended art assignments using the media of pencil, markers, colored pencils, clay, paper sculpture and paint.
