We are using the Scott Foresman Reading Street Series this year. Students
will begin learning letters and sounds and memorizing sight words. Each week,
students will have focus letters and sight words. After the 6th week,
students will be blending sounds together to read small words. We will
continue to practice naming letters and sounds throughout the school year.
Students will be developing the skills necessary to read. We will read many
books this year and there are books for all different levels of readers.
Students will be taught as a whole class, in small groups, and individually.
My goal is to help your child become a successful reader who wants to learn
and enjoys reading, not to make learning stressful for your child. It can be
difficult for some to blend and read in the beginning, so I try to make it fun
and interesting. Each week, students will also have vocabulary words that we
call amazing words. Your child will have a 1/2 page of homework each night
Monday - Thursday that can be done in a few minutes. Below, you will find a
list of words for each story.
Note: Reading words must be blended to sound out the word and sight words
must be memorized. Each student should be able to name each letter and
produce the sound of the letter. Amazing words are words we will learn to
expand our vocabulary.
