Dear Parents,

FIELD DAY is FRIDAY.   Notes went home about food tickets last week.  They do not let the kids bring cash to buy food they must use tickets.  I am sending  home another note in the BEE binder today.  If you want your child to get anything at the field day concession stand, please fill out the form and turn it in ASAP with cash only.
The children will also need to wear the yellow shirt that they wore on the Field Trip.  This is the shirt that you purchased all the way back in the Fall.  The children will be allowed to wear athletic shorts on Friday.

We need volunteers to bring water for our hot and thirsty athletes.  Please note that if your child does not want to purchase lunch from the concession stand, then he/she  will
need to bring a lunch.

This is a really crazy day for everyone, so please keep that in mind if you are coming to volunteer or hang out with your child.

Thank you to all the parents that went on the field trip.  We had a blast.  Your support is always appreciated.

Last day of school is a half day, however this is the day I like to have a big celebration with the children.  We will be honoring all the leopards (Oscar style) and then we will party. I give out all the End of the Year goodies and the memory books and the towel on that day.  If you will not be there that day, please tell me so I can have your child' s things ready earlier.

Our End of the Year Memory books are going to be nice scrapbook grade books. We have a mom purchasing them from Michael's when they go on sale.  The cost of each book is $10.00.  They are really nice quality books and will make our books look the best in kindergarten.  Please consider helping with the purchase of the books with a donation.

We are having a lot of friends asking to go the bathroom on the playground.  We go before and after lunch, so there is no reason they would need to go at recess.   I have reminded them several times, so please help me by reminding them at home too.  Please make sure that your child has a change of clothes in their backpack.  Our clothes closet is running low.

The weather in Memphis is constantly changing and you never know when a coat will be needed.  We are really having issues with people keeping up with their coats and putting them on by themselves.
I really need all the children to practice independence at home and school.  It gets really tricky when I have 5 or more struggling with shoes, coats etc. It cuts into our recess time. I would also like to see the children staying in their seats during work time.  We are really trying to be big independent readers and learners.

Don't forget that we always appreciate extra snacks, in case someone is absent or forgets.
We are working very hard on handwriting along with everything else.    Please help your child with this in any way you can.  I want the first grade teachers to be proud of us.

Please don't forget that Mrs. McNary has said that the girls CANNOT wear the navy blue collared dresses, only the red or gray.

I know for some of the children the homework may be too easy.    Even if you feel the work being sent home is too easy, remember we are also practicing following directions, neat work and working quietly.  Parents may always send in a workbook for when their child finishes early.  Also remember that the children must do the kindergarten work first because it is the curriculum, and they must complete the skills on the report card.  I want everyone to be challenged correctly, but I also have things I'm required to have the children do.  Thank you in advance for understanding.

Don't Forget that you can earn points with A.R.  and at the end of the year trade the points for prizes.  The children get to keep the book for one week before returning it to the library.
You may read the book together or have your child practice reading it by his/herself.    I do ask that the children read the book with a parent at least three times before taking a test.  Please send a note to school when he/she is ready to take an A.R. test. Sticky not attached to the front of the book is best.  You can remind you child to place it in the A.R. bucket

As always, please be patient with the children and myself, it seems that SCS is always changing the rules.

Kindergarten as a grade will always go outside unless its raining or below 40.  This means the children will need to be dressed appropriately.    Please keep everything labeled and we will try our best to keep it from ending up in lost and found. DON'T FORGET A WATER BOTTLE.

Because of the Reading assignments mandated by the Board, We are starting our whole group reading at 8:30 and work stations at 9:00.  Now more than ever, it's important for the children to be here on time.
Students coming in late miss out on journal writing and the kindergarten skills it helps to enhance.

Thank you so much for all the work you do with the children at home, it really shows at school.
The most important thing you can do at home is practice the sight words and practice reading.

With Love,
Mrs. Langston
