Music Classroom Expectations

WELCOME TO MUSIC CLASS!!

Music is an outlet that can be rewarding, challenging, and lots of fun! The
music class is a change of pace from the regular classroom. Our topics,
activities, and goals vary from week to week. It is very important that the
student understands procedures and expectations in this related arts
classroom.

When you come to music class, remember our school-wide rules. These rules
apply no matter the age or level of the student. These expectations are
easy, positive, and consistent with all of our school.

1. Respect self, others, and property.
2. Talk at appropriate times, at appropriate levels, and with appropriate
    vocabulary.
3. Enter the music room quietly.
4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
5. Be prepared in all school settings.
6. Follow all school-wide policies.

Respect is the key. Our goal is to create a positive classroom environment.
These are simple and respectful standards for getting along with each
other, and having a successful learning experience.

THESE RULES WILL BE POSTED IN THE CLASSROOM. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO FOLLOW
ALL CLASSROOM RULES APPROPRIATELY. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN THE
FOLLOWING CONSEQUENCES:

1. Verbal correction / Call out / Warning -- 2 opportunities to correct
    behavior
2. Student will be moved to alternate location in classroom, and not
permitted to participate in musical activities.
3. If negative behavior continues, write up (possible lunch, after-school
    detention, ISS)

GRADING for MUSIC STUDENTS is based on participation, behavior, and
compilation of MUSIC FOLDER for grades 5-8. Each week students in the upper
grades are asked to bring a 3-prong folder to collect lesson information
which will be graded at the end of the 9-week period to assess the final
grade. Students, during some grading periods, will be tested over the
material collected in the folder.
